Michley LSS-202 Lil' Sew & Sew Mini 2-Speed Sewing Machine

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

This is a great little machine for a great little price. I paid less than $20 for this mini sewing machine to take with me to school because I did not have enough room in my car or my dorm room for a big sewing machine. I wanted to save money by making some of my own clothes, and also put my creativity to use. I have so sewn a handful of dresses, a few bags, a couple of summer tops, and a patch-work quilt. I have always sewn quilts by hand before, which is nice and relaxing, but this little machine made quick work of it.

It definitely does the trick and is able to take both bobbins and full spools. I think it works better with bobbins, perhaps because it is such a small machine, but full spools are more convenient when sewing something large (like a quilt) because you do not have to worry about running out of thread. I like that it is able to run on batteries or by DC adapter, because the batteries make it truly portable and easy to use anywhere. There are only a few settings, but if you are just doing some basic sewing, you don't need many settings.

The only drawbacks are that the string tends to snap at first until the tension is adjusted, it is a little loud, and it has no reverse. Also, the needles that are included are not strong enough to sew denim. I snapped 2 of them trying. I have yet to see if I can find some stronger needles to fit in it, but I do not see why that would be a problem. For such a low price it really is a great product and very easy to transport. It comes with a foot pedal, as well, which surprised me because many mini's do not. This is definitely not a replacement for a regular machine but is a great purchase for sewing basics.
