BUNN Coffee maker STX Brewer

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

I fell in love with the BUNN Coffee maker STX Brewer the first time I saw it. All sleekly silver with black trim, its design was deceptively simple. How could this simple looking machine produce the kind of flavorful coffee that my research indicated it could? Once I got it home, plugged it in, filled its well up with water and its basket up with coffee grounds it became clear that not only could it do so, but it could do so, consistently.

The BUNN, I must say, makes the smoothest and most flavorful coffee I've had the honor of brewing in my own home. This consistency of flavor and smoothness is due to the BUNN's unique construction. Firstly, water is kept hot, at 200 degrees Fahrenheit (which is considered the ideal brewing temperature) by an internal thermostat. This hot water is then sprayed uniformly onto the coffee grounds so that they float, extracting the flavor from all the grounds equally. Then this smooth and flavorful coffee is dripped into a stainless steel vacuum insulated carafe, which keeps the coffee hot much longer than a glass carafe.

The only real drawbacks to the BUNN Coffee Maker STX Brewer is, first, it's price which, at $179.99 I found myself blinking at, though I'm glad now that I made the switch. Secondly, is the fact that it does not have a timer or delayed brew function. I'm sure this is because BUNN expects that its users are focused on obtaining a quality cup of coffee, and don't mind a little preparation to do so, but also because the BUNN STX Brewer is designed to work best with fresh-ground coffee, not pre-packaged coffee grounds.

I wish now, more than ever, that I had made the BUNN STX Brewer my first choice of coffee pots years ago, instead of just discovering it, but I plan on enjoying it for years to come.
