When looking to replace the gas range that came with our house (a 1970's model that was scary to even look at) I went to website after website and store after store to find a range that would be up to date without costing an arm and a leg. Finally, after several months of comparison shopping, I settled on the Frigidaire 30" Freestanding Gas Range, in white to blend with our kitchen cabinets and color scheme.

At only $649.00, the Frigidaire seemed like a real bargain. After all, it had all the bells and whistles; one touch cleaning, a delay start baking option, an extra large oven window through which you can actually see what is cooking, an electronic kitchen timer, timed cooking options, a storage drawer and a large oven that I can actually fit an entire professional baking sized cookie sheet into. But one of the key selling points, at least for my wife, was the specialized burners.

The Frigidaire 30" Freestanding Gas Range comes with four burners, and while two of them are regular burners, one is a 14,000 BTU burner that claimed to boil water faster than a regular burner, the other was a simmer burner, which was supposed to be perfect for delicate foods and sauces, but once we got it home and hooked it up, it turned out that the specialized burners were both a blessing and a curse. Yes, they did what they claimed to do, boiled water faster, or kept things simmering, however, when cooking a large meal - and needing all four burners at "normal" levels - some tinkering with the heavy duty and simmer burners is necessary, and not always successful. We've burned more than one pan of food on the 14,000 BTU burner. Also, the flames do not burn smoothly. There are occasional splutters and spurts of flame from the burners that alarms my life and frightens the dickens out of the cat.

On a lighter note, while the design is smooth and rounded and functional, with no crevices or cracks for excess bits of food to get stuck in, the pain on the range surface is prone to chipping, showing through to the metal underneath.

But if you are looking for an efficient gas range in a relatively reasonable price range, the Frigidaire 30" Freestanding Gas Range is a logical and affordable option.
