A friend recommended this turkey fryer to me after he had success with it. I'm not an experienced turkey fryer, and my main concern when using a turkey fryer is that I not fry myself.

I was extremely satisfied with my purchase in that regard. While the pots are aluminum and about the same as most common household pots, the bottom is made of cast iron. It's sturdy and heavy and absolutely strong enough to support the pots, even when filled with boiling oil and a big turkey. I thought with

The unit comes with everything you need to cook a turkey except the fuel. There is a basket for turkey as well as a smaller basket which is great for crawfish or fritters. It might be overkill to use a turkey fryer for french fries, but I've done so, and they turned out fantastic. The thermometer is great and designed to work well with the fryer, as it has a long stem and is very easy to read without having to lean all the way over the boiling oil to do so.

There were just a few things that were less than ideal. First, it was somewhat difficult to assemble the base. Things didn't fit quite as closely as I had assumed they would. I switched out some of the screws for longer ones and it eventually went together perfectly. However, if I hadn't had the longer screws, it would have been a serious irritation.

My only other criticism is that it's very difficult to clean. After waiting for the oil to cool and either filtering it clean (which I rarely do) or properly disposing of it, all the sticky mess, from all the little holes of the inner pot, needs to be cleaned. I did a poor job the first time I cleaned it, and the taste was affected the next time.

Other than those two criticisms, I have no complaints. The fryer works well and is as safe and dependable as I could have wished.
