Magic Chef 0.7 cu. ft. white microwave oven MCB780W

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

The Magic Chef 0.7 cu. ft. microwave oven I currently use was a hand-me-down, and as such I did not particularly choose it. I've only ever heard bad things about the Magic Chef brand (which is a cheaper brand owned by the more high-end Whirlpool), but to be honest I've found this microwave to be pretty solid.

At only 0.7 cu. ft., this is a smaller microwave, so it works perfectly if you need a unit small enough to fit in a cabinet (which is how I have it set up). One the other hand, if you want to heat up something on a large dinner plate you're going to have problems. The turntable pops off from time to time (pretty common in most microwaves), but easily pops back into place comes out easily for cleaning.

The controls and features are all pretty standard and work great. I use the defrost option the most with this microwave and it's solid. It's a one-button defrost (meat, fish, or poultry), but it often tends to start cooking whatever you are defrosting, so you still have to monitor your food towards the end of the cycle. It also has one-touch cooking, meaning that every time you hit the start button, it adds 30 seconds to the cook time. You can still manually input the cooking time, of course, but the one touch feature will see a lot of use - it's just that handy.

At the end of the day, I'd say this low-priced ($70-$80) microwave is perfect for people that need a smaller microwave. It doesn't have all the extras you can get with some models, but it's very modern and does the job well. I don't really have any complaints, so I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
