If you're looking for a spray gun that will give you a professional finish every time, check out the Fuji 3004 Q4 PRO. It is intended for heavy duty painting projects and does the job well, provided whoever is doing the job uses it correctly.
While this is an industrial system it is also remarkably compact, weighing just 40 lbs (including the turbine, hose and gun) and measuring 17 inches x 16 inches by 15 inches (minus the hose). It also comes at a cost effective price.
The system comes with everything you need to get going including a turbine, a spray gun with a cup, an extra viscosity cup, a 25 foot long hose that is easy to connect, an air control valve, a wrench and a cleaning brush - and of course a user manual. The turbine itself has a four-stage motor that provides more pressure than most spray guns, resulting in less thinning of the paint.
The spray gun is a non-bleed model which means that air will only pass through the gun when you pull the trigger. This results in a reduced build-up of paint and clogging in the nozzle. Because there is also reduced air turbulence, there is also less dust. There is an air control valve on the gun (rather than on the turbine) that you can use to minimize over-spraying. This means too that the control of air is variable.
What we like most about this system is that it is versatile. You can use it for automobile paint spraing, but also for standard paint jobs and fine lacquer finishes for furniture. It is also suitable for all types of paint, water based, oil and latex. It is relatively easy to keep clean by simply running the correct solvent (based on the paint you have just used) through the gun, and by cleaning the nozzle and needle after each job.
It is a very quiet machine with good quality parts. It feels substantial without being heavy. The hose, however, does feel a bit stiff. The air caps are color-coded blue, yellow, red and green so that you don't get confused.
Our opinion is that the ultimate secret to any successful spray painting project is to use quality equipment - which this is - and to work in a completely dust free environment. While professional auto sprayers and cabinet makers have pristine spray booths, if you're going to use the Fuji 3004 Q4 PRO for home improvement projects, you will need to ensure that you can create a similar kind of environment.
We've used it mainly for preparing surfaces for decorative paint finishes, and for sealing the finish when it is complete. It works a treat.
