Whirlpool ET1CHMXK Refrigerator

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

This is a good basic refrigerator. In its 7 years, we haven't had any mechanical failures or breakdowns. Other than a few very minor issues, I'm happy with this product.

The only thing I can complain about regarding the refrigerator portion is the unevenness of the temperature. I have noticed sometimes things stored toward the back of the refrigerator get a little frosty. This only happens when the temperature setting is set higher. The food in the front of the refrigerator doesn't get frosty, which is how I know it's uneven. Fortunately, nothing has spoiled, so I know that if anything, the refrigerator is too cold rather than not cold enough.

The positive to the refrigerator is its storage space. It's a standard sized refrigerator, but it has shelves on the door that you can adjust to your liking. This is very convenient, considering you may want to store tall bottles or tiny containers. Also, having adjustable shelves makes it easier to clean the refrigerator. You can just pull out the shelves and soak them in the sink. There are also big drawers for serving produce, which you can remove for even more shelf space. This is a big convenience.

As far as the freezer portion, the ice maker started making foul-tasting ice 2 years ago so we stopped using it. That has become annoying because the ice maker takes up quite a bit of room in a freezer compartment that wasn't too roomy to begin with. Still, the door shelves in the freezer to make up for that. They provide lots of room, but only to store smaller items.

If it came down to making the decision today, I would buy this refrigerator all over again. The price was right, and like I said, there have been no serious breakdowns.
