The Panasonic EW3152A blood pressure monitor is one of the few home blood pressure monitors available for a reasonable price that is entirely fixed and doesn't require you to wrap a cuff around your arm. Instead, you place your arm through a circular hole in the machine and then inflate it around yourself.
The Panasonic EW3152A costs $149.99, which is much more than most of the expensive blood pressure monitors with arm cuffs, but it offers a completely different approach to measuring blood pressure. The large LCD screen changes color according to the level of your blood pressure, which isn't essential but is a nice feature if you can never remember what your systolic and diastolic is meant to be or you have vision problems. It is capable of storing up to 180 readings, which I found to be more than enough to plot patterns in your pressure and can save readings for two separate people.
The cuff is supplied with an AC adaptor, but it is also capable of being powered entirely by batteries. However, because it is so large (which poses a major problem if you were planning on keeping track of your pressure on the move or at work) it seems unnecessary to run it from anything other than a fixed power supply. The Panasonic EW3152A did prove to be very accurate compared with other home blood pressure monitors and readings taken by a doctor. Unfortunately, because it is a fixed machine, it is unable to get a good reading on your blood pressure if you accidentally move while your arm is inside it, and refuses to continue taking a reading until you are completely still. While most people would quickly train themselves to concentrate and sit still, I imagine that trying to measure the pressure of someone who is easily distracted or finds it hard to be stationary would be difficult if not impossible.
If you're looking for a highly accurate, stay at home blood pressure monitor, the Panasonic EW3152A is a good buy. However, you will have to buy another portable monitor if you want to keep track of your pressure elsewhere.
