Bose Acoustimass 10 Series IV 5.1-CH Home Theater Speaker System

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

For many years Bose has been the choice of the sound system in many homes. They are not the most expensive nor the least, but they do have a reputation for delivering great sound from a small box. The Acoustimass surround speakers have a price tag of $999.00, which is in line with other speakers that deliver the same volume and clarity of this set.

My current receiver puts out 110 watts per channel, and that's about all my living space will allow. I believe anything that is loud enough can have some distortion to it and you get some with these at the higher end. The woofer has to be placed on a thick piece of soft material on my wood floors to keep it from making those rattling sounds when the volume is high.

My room is long and narrow enough to get the separation of speakers that you need to get good surround sound. The television sits at the end and in the center of the long way, and my viewing area is central in the room. You know surround is good when you get real separation of front rear and center speakers. Although some presentations have better surround than others do, most of what I get with the Bose is very good.

Separation of the highs and lows are much better than with the Jensen speakers I used to have. I had used them in the same setup so it is a good comparison. When I close my eyes I can get a real feeling of sitting right in the middle of whatever movie or television show is playing.

I don't know much about all the technical parts of speakers, but I do know what sounds good. In a home application, it would be hard to beat Bose speakers.
