When you are fortunate to be able to live in a rural area, you will most likely become familiar with a septic tank. This one of the prices you will pay for the pastoral life, no public sewer system. Unless you enjoy a frequent visit from the septic tank, pumper with the $600 bill he brings every few months you have to be careful what you introduce into the tank. You can almost bet the septic tank will act up just when you are expecting company.

Consequently, when we looked into purchasing a garbage disposer for our kitchen we wanted to do as little harm to our septic process as possible. While the great majority of our kitchen scraps find their way into our compost bin, we still need a good ecological friendly garbage disposer.

Here comes the Waste King Eco Green 1000 1 HP Garbage Disposer manufactured by the Anaheim Manufacturing Company. It comes with a $200 MSRP but can be found for less if you shop around. It has a "lifetime in-home warranty", which should be wonderful should the disposer fail or require service. Not many manufacturers offer this type of warranty.

Ecology minded purchasers will find the low energy consumption, "less than a 60 watt bulb", the additional fact that it has low water consumption should be considered as an added features. Rural property owners frequently have a personal on-site well for their water source, so running the well pump lees is an additional saving in electricity and future pump replacement cost. Waste King even packages the disposer in biodegradable inserts instead of foam peanuts that do not degrade.

One of the primary reasons a suburbanite should consider the Waste King is the fact that it chops the food into much smaller particles which beak down in the septic tank much quicker as they offer more surface to degrade quicker. Smaller particles will also travel down the drainpipes with less chance of plugging the pipes. Having a septic tank means you are going to repair your own system since you cannot call the local county sewer provider.

We have had not problem with the Waste King disposer for over a year and it still sounds like a garbage disposer it is a small price to pay for making life more comfortable while preserving our little portion of the earth.

Default NOT 60 watt

Definitions of watts and HP make it impossible for a 1 HP motor to have equivalent power consumption to a 60 watt light bulb when both are operated for the same amount of time.

The US standard is that 746 watts equals 1 horsepower, so the description that this unit uses less energy than a 60w light bulb, “Total Energy Consumption is less then a 60 watt light bulb”, is considered to be wrong or deceptive. The possible deception may be derived from an assumed different duty cycles for the two comparisons, but if not clearly stated may be considered deceptive by some. Use an internet search engine to verify this information and come to your own conclusion.
