Black & Decker BDP3100 3100 psi Gas Pressure Washer

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

I purchased one of these pressure washers shortly after moving into our new home. The model I'd used previously was electric, and I wanted a gas machine instead for the improved power and flexibility.

This washer features a 6.5 horsepower motor that produces up to 3100 psi of pressure, more than adequate for cleaning the patio, driveway and siding of the house. The wheels on the unit are large and it maneuvers well across grass and uneven ground, a must for regular outdoor use. I found the spray powerful enough to reach approximately 3/4ths of the way up the side of our two-story home. I have only cleaned the siding once with this unit so far, but I'm eager to experiment with the pressure settings to see if it will reach all the way to the roof.

The hose is approximately 25 feet long, more than enough for my purposes. It also includes several different attachments for different spray patterns and even has a special soap dispenser so you can use it on a low setting to clean vehicles, outdoor grills, etc. I have yet to make use of this dispenser, but it seems like a handy feature. The gun itself is light and easy to use, and changing the heads is simple.

Unit isn't overly large (main body is around 20x30") and tucks neatly into a corner of our garden shed. The tow handle comes apart and can be turned backwards over the motor to further reduce its footprint for easy storage.

My only gripe with this unit is that the instruction manual might as well be written in Chinese it can be extremely difficult to start. The clutch and fuel switches seem overly complicated. It often takes me 4-5 tries to get it running, and it will occasionally shut itself off mid-use. Getting it to start in cool weather is nearly impossible.

In all I love the physical characteristics and features of this washer, but wish it were easier to operate.
