2009 Chevy Avalanche 1500

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

After shopping around for vehicles I decided on purchasing a 2009 Chevy Avalanche sport utility truck. I really liked the new design of the Avalanche compared to earlier designs. I purchased the Avalanche at a local dealership for $37,000 new.

I purchased the LS trim line that features a 5.3 liter 310 horsepower V8 engine. The LS is also four wheel drive. The exterior color is black with black leather interior. The Chevy Avalanche shares it platform with the upscale Cadillac Escalade Sport Utility Truck, which looks virtually identical but costs over $60,000 brand new.

When test driving the Avalanche it handled pretty well, comparable to most SUVs. There were some blind spots I noticed because of the shape, but it comes equipped with back up sensors. The interior was nicer than I imagined with the leather and wood grain. It also came with an in-dash navigation system. The sound system sounded great and the controls were very intuitive. The power was there when I stepped on the accelerator and was able to pass cars with ease.

The Avalanche has a short bed but the mid-gate can be removed making the bed extend from 5 feet to 8 feet in length. It comes with a very nice cover that can be taken on and off very easily. The bed is lined with a rubber truck liner.

The interior fits five people, which makes it roomy enough for my family. It also has a luggage rack on the rook and side steps to get up in the vehicle. The model I purchased came with 22 inch chrome wheels giving it a flashier look. The fuel economy is not great, but is expected because of the 310 HP engine and the fact it is a four wheel drive truck. So far I've averaged 14 around town and 19 on the highway.
