Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker
Rating: 4 out of 5
I purchased this coffee maker for daily home use. I drink about a pot of coffee a day, every day, so I needed a reliable coffee maker and I've been happy with this one.
My favorite feature is the sneak-a-cup brew pausing feature. The valve mechanism works extremely well and I rarely get more than a drip or two of spilled coffee on the heating plate when I pour a cup before it has finished brewing. The pot doesn't actually stop brewing though, so if you don't put the pot back on the burner quickly, the basket can overflow and spill water and grounds.
I also appreciate the 2-hour automatic shutoff. I didn't have this feature on my previous pot and had many incidents of scorched coffee on the bottom of the carafe. I don't have that problem with this pot at all, which saves me headaches when it is time to clean the carafe. Cleaning of the coffee pot overall isn't difficult. The grounds basket and the lid to the carafe both pop off easily for washing and all three did fine in my dishwasher.
The water heats up quickly and a full pot will brew in less than ten minutes, which isn't bad even if it didn't have the sneak-a-cup option for the truly impatient like me.
The programmable timer is another good feature. On mornings when I know I'll be rushed, I set up the pot in the evening before bed and set it to brew twenty minutes before I wake up. So far, I haven't had any problems.
I only had two very minor problems with this coffee maker. First, the little tabs that hold the lid to the carafe eventually broke and I have to hold the lid with my thumb or it slides off on the counter while I'm pouring. Second, as I mentioned above, if you don't get the pot back on the burner immediately when you sneak-a-cup, the basket will overflow.
Otherwise, I love this coffee pot and use it daily. It was a great buy for under $25 new.
