Review of Keurig Premium Coffee System, Mini-Model B30
Keurig Premium Coffee System, Mini-Model B30
Rating: 3 out of 5
I purchased the Keurig Mini-Model B30 on a whim, as I had heard about its convenience and versatility. I planned to use it in my office, where I would be able to get a quick cup of coffee without a lot of bother, and without the machine taking up a lot of valuable counter space. The Keurig is definitely convenient and versatile, as advertised. It has a very small footprint, and looks attractive and unobtrusive on the counter. Coffee making is simple: you just pop in the K-Cup you want, and coffee is ready quickly. K-Cups provide an efficient and much less messy way to make coffee. So in all these ways, the Keurig coffee system lived up to its hype. My problem: I just didn't really particularly like the taste. And that is a big deal, of course, with a coffee maker. It's possible that I just never found the right brand or flavor, even though there is a wide range of K-Cup selections available. I also didn't find my coffee to be as piping hot as I wanted. The bottom line: my petite, convenient, and capable little Keurig ended up banished to a pantry shelf. I may use it as a back-up coffee maker if my replacement coffee maker goes on the blink, or I may eventually donate it to a friend or to a thrift shop. Just because I was underwhelemed, it doesn't mean that this coffee maker might not be the perfect choice for someone else. To summarize, the pros include: very easy operation, quick brewing time, wide selection of coffees, teas, and cocoa K-Cups, and petite size. The cons: coffee may not be hot enough for some, and taste is not as good as with some other systems.

I know a little bit about these Keurig machines. They came out with the My K-Cup coffee filters, which are exactly what it sounds like. You fill them with the coffee grounds of your choice and use the brewing machine in the same manner. Presumably you can get a bolder taste if you pack it in and make a small cup.

Good review. I've one of the larger models w/adjustable temperature (set just under 200 F) which really helps make a good cup o' joe. Based on that I picked up one of the smaller, "non" temp adjustable models for my son - we tried it out and I have to say... meh. Same packs of coffee, same water, etc., but a very different result (I could tell and I'm no aficianado).
Oh, and the hotter water from mine makes a very nice cup of tea as well. His, not so much.

I've had a lot of experience with the top of the line model and a few friends have had them. All of us have had to return our unit for a replacement within a year. Descaling is a must and when it wants to be descaled nothing else will make it work and it is a PAIN! Fortunately, their CS dept is fantastic and will gladly send out a new maker if they can't help you get it working. I really think they make all their profit on those pricey little K-cups, and the makers are just cheap (and I'm NOT talking price here, obviously) and easy for them to replace to keep you buying the coffee.
