Black & Decker DCM2000B SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker

Rating: 1 out of 5
  • Currently 1.0/5.0

I purchased this inexpensive coffeemaker when I was renovating a house across town and just wanted a cheap machine that I could keep there for a constant supply of coffee. I specifically purchased this machine beacuse I just wanted something simple, something that I wouldn't mourn too much if it got paint on it.

However, I did want the machine to actually work. I was really disappointed in this coffeemaker, even for the low price ($14 on sale) that I paid. It has a stop and pour feature, which I wanted, since I'm very impatient when it comes to coffee. However, there's this little spring in the basket that controls that, and every other time I made coffee, the thing popped out and I had to finagle it back in. I finally managed to lose it, so I had no stop and pour option after about two weeks.

I also didn't really care for the way the pot is designed. It seemed to splash and leak a lot when pouring, which irritated me a little. It wasn't a big deal, I suppose, but coupled with the overall cheapness of the coffeemaker, it bugged me.

The ON/OFF switch went out on me after about three weeks. The machine still turned on, but the light didn't work, so I had a habit of hitting it two or three more times until the coffee started brewing, because I wasn't positive it was on.

I suppose the coffeemaker made a decent cup of coffee for the purpose and the price, but I've had more than one coffeemaker at this price point that didn't irritate me so much. I think this machine would have died on me pretty quickly, but as soon as the house was finished, I donated it to Goodwill.
