I don't know about most people not listening. I think it is very situational while at the same time there r folk who would rather talk than listen. However, we can all use better listening skills I am sure. Especially men and hard stubborn women

I think good friends can be good listeners. But in general the majority of people aren't good listeners because they don't have the patience to listen to others.

I'm a good listener, I have to be for my job but I think it comes naturally to me.
I remember most of what people tell me which sometimes surprises them.
If I discover someone is not a good listener I try not to engage in any in-depth conversation. Someone I sit next to at work can be so annoying, almost everything you say he turns into a story about himself and his experiences, plus of course he knows everything about everything, sigh.

So true, I was introducing myself to some co-workers at my new job and the first thing I asked them was their name and literally the minute I walked away I forgot their name lol.

I went to a drug addicts group therapy session and all of those people kept interrupting each other and not listening to what anyone else had to say!

Or you might say they had no "self-control"!

Whereas I have also been in business meetings where everyone was a college graduate. Or government volunteer citizen committee meetings... At those meetings, people were polite and listened to what others had to say.

Bottom line: It depends on the type of people you hang around with!
