What is your definition of an alpha female?

For instance;

Is it:

(a) A female who is physically attractive, a sign of fertility and health. For instance the hot but bitchy cheerleader, beauty Queen, sex symbol.

(b) An aggressive, sexually forward female who dominates the other females and some men. Not necessarily a tomboy, but can be, but can also be femme but loud and assertive.

(c) Someone who is simply egotistical/dominating. This articles suggests some one this:

Alpha female - AskMen Australia

Both can 'rule the roost' but in female-only circles, it seems the former dominates. I.e. the 'Queen bee.' Whereas in situations where there are males and females, I feel the latter would be more of the 'alpha female' type. I DO believe there are alpha females in humans (there are in most species, think dogs for instance).

This article gives a more generalised idea of an 'alpha female.'

By all means let me know your own idea of an 'alpha female' if you believe such exists.

But of the three crude models presented, which comes closest in your view?

I work with lots of women, who think that being butch equates being tough. They have short, cropped hair, wear butch clothing to work. They act all that. Ugh. They don't understand that you can be pretty, nice, smart, and authoritative.

As one, here are my thoughts:

The poll was pretty limited.

There is a big difference in what most people think an alpha is and what one truly is. It does not imply a bully, a *****, an aggressor or an in-your-face type personality. At all!

A true alpha female is kind. She will have a strong physical presence, usually beautiful, but inside as well. She holds her place in the world well and with some elegance. She can mold herself to fit the role called for when needed. She focuses on being a good partner, mother, teacher, friend, daughter. She leaves her narcissism at the door to be a good role model for others.
You will see her in leadership positions, but you can also find her in the garden or making a roast for her husband.
Alpha females tend to draw attention form everyone, but will command the presence in a room. Men will be attracted to her in ways they may not be able to define. Women will be pulled to her cycle.
Overall, alpha females are rare. there are many women who would like to believe they are alpha, but if their egos are attached, they most likely are not.

Hmmmm...I'm more thinking about alpha as in dominant and socially influential. You don't think ego has anything to do with that?

Again, these are traits mentioned yes, leadership roles, but that is not ALL an alpha is.
Ego is tricky. We need a certain amount to accelerate, but if we are not able to balance it with true humility, then we are not honest alphas. At that point, we are bordering on self-aggrandizement.

I'd have to say none of the above. An Alpha female is...

d) ..a woman who has confidence and ability. She is confident because she lives up to her potential by being prepared for life. She is good at her job, whether that is rearing her children, keeping an organized home, or running a corporation.

I think I am one. I don't really try to run things, but usually people look to me to be in charge in most cases.

I think this is key. When I think of an alpha woman that first woman that comes to mind is Hillary. Regardless of personal politics and gossip, she has significant influence over people's lives. She's a mover & shaker. On a smaller scale professional women in leadership roles fit the mold. Such a woman has to be intelligent to start and accomplished. At least for adults. The stereotypical dumb cheerleader might have a role in HS, but that won't fly in professional circles. I don't think beauty is absolutely necessary, but it probably helps.
