I would suggest change your audience. Expand your network by joining a forum & meeting people who share your interests & will love your enthusiasm & knowledge of the subject. Perhaps you could even volunteer at a school or science expo & make kids interested in science.

You seem like a good listener & respectful of others even when you are not interested in their topics. You should be getting the same respect in return. Chose your audience & spend your knowledge wisely. That doesn't mean you should stop going out with them. Just be a good listener & pretend to be interested, thats all. Share your knowledge with the appropriate audience.

I work in Customer Service and deal with people all day and they love to just interrupt you and cut you off at the drop of a hat.
