There's a few books and movies who present an scenario where most people go blind and just a few remain able to see.

The Day of the Triffids, The Invisible Man, and Blindness are three famous examples.

I read The Day of the Triffids at highschool, and the most shocking scene is when a guy who could see had turned the leader of a group of blind men, and he picked random blind girls and distributed them among the guys, even making jokes like "hey Mike, how do you want your girl, blonde or brunette?". It sounded sordid as hell, and they even rationalized the whole thing explaning at least in that way the girl could have a chance to survive.

In the Invisible Man, nobody is blind, but he can´t be seen, so the guy wastes no time to sexually assault a woman in her house.

I haven´t seen Blindness, but I read a comment about this film that in this case they went all the way and showed some mass rape scenes. Seeing man plus blind woman equals rape.

So this makes me think about how the world works and how people is.

There's two main reasons why people don´t do bad things.

The main reason is ethics. Good people don´t do bad things because they don´t like them. The second reason is feedback. They are afraid of jail, or the vengance of the victim.

But in a world where most people is blind, there would be no jail nor vengance of the victims. Bad people could do and undo at their wish.

So I wonder...is this true? Are those works based on reasonable criteria and that's what would happen in a real case of massive blindness?

Or do you think humans are underrated and there's more to them than meets the eye? (no pun intended)

You should never determine how the real world is based on how things are in movies.

I don´t. But I am not gonna invent a virus to blind 99 per cent of the world population so I can see what happens. (or not, if I get in the 99 per cent group)

It's just better speculate what could happen. You know, some idle chit chat and stuff.

I dunno everyone being blind except for a man here and there changes way more then how sex goes about. I'd imagine the game would be so dramatically changed that those few men would basically be gods and it wouldn't even be considered rape anymore. (Like how kings used to have sex with random to-be wifes etc)

Isn't this thread a roundabout way of saying power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I believe that is one of the underlying this of all of those movies.

And quite realistic even if Hollywood.

I am unaware of a single instance where someone that has absolute power has not "exerted" it in some depraved manner.

Think dictators and the like.

Sure, in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man might be a trafficker in humans. But he also might be burned as a heretic.
