I have at least two or three friends who are therapist. Some I have known since college where I minored in behavioral science. No I don’t corner them in the grocery store for free sessions but sometimes in the course of a chat getting caught up with each other they can impart some gems that are very helpful. I can imagine the good they can do to someone in an actual session. People are not all that complex and different as we like to think we are. A therapist has seen the same problems time after time and can get most people through a rough patch very quickly.
