My husband, being an American, married me first (I am an Asian woman) before informing his parents...
He actually thought his parents especially his mom won't like me, as they are kind of racist, but he loves me so much so he still married me despite of his worries that his parents would get mad... In the end, his parents welcomed me into their family and treat me with much love...-happy wife here...
Me and my family are racist as hell, but only towards blacks and Hispanics ... my girlfriend is Chinese and there's never been a problem.
I'm Asian, and my parents are vehemently against me (and my siblings) dating anybody who is not East/Southeast Asian.
I wouldn't say they're racist, just ignorant. Though one can argue racism and ignorance go hand in hand, I guess. They've never said anything derogatory about non-Asians but they tell us that they don't want us dating someone who is Indian (they classify every South Asian as Indian), Muslim (they classify everyone of Middle Eastern heritage as Muslim) or black. I don't think they mind us with white people that much but obviously an Asian for them would be preferred. They're unwilling to step out of their comfort zone and explore what is unfamiliar to them, so they assume that having a son/daughter in-law who is Asian would be the best.

why do racist parents not let their kids date people of other races, even if they turn 18? my friend's mom won't let him go out with someone of another race even though he is in his 20's. if he does she won't talk to him.
Because they're racist. Duh.
