It could be a sign of mental illness, but in a time when tattoos are so fashionable, it's more likely a sign of failure to foresee that one day this person is not going to get a badly-wanted job because he interviewed while looking like the Illustrated Man.
People are saying that folks with facial tattoos are not likely to get into executive positions, that may be true. But what is sad is people change and just because you have the type of personality that encourages you to get a tattoo on your face at 22, does not mean you would be the same person at age 45. But now you are now branded for life! Too me that decision is a form of mental illness.
Now days many things a person does gets them branded for life, for example, criminal records, education, career path, etc.
That guy who decided to rob a store at 18 is branded for life.
That guy who joined the Army and got his legs blown off at age 20 is branded for life.
That guy who racked up $120k in college debt for a music degree is branded for life.
While a tattoo is a very physical, in your face showing, many people's actions impact them for the rest of their life.

In societies where facial tattoos significantly impact economic and livelihood mobility (the vast majority of the world), it is at minimal a reflection of a person's judgment skills.
My point was merely that it is possible for some full facial tattoos to be distinguished-looking, that's all.
I went to look at the original posters link to face tattoo designs and I quite liked some of them. Personally, I wouldn't have tattoos but that is just becuase I don't think they would suit me and don't want to go through the pain.
Anyone who gets a face tattoo is sort of saying that they don't really care much about future employment...why would you put yourself in a position to be judged and a position to possibly get turned down for employment?
