Not trolling. Just my opinion-if it offends you, all I can state is it's my opinion. Not looking for a magic bullet with therapy etc. etc. run the gamut with meds therapy etc. I know this is something I will live with the rest of my life, no biggy.
I, also, know antidepressants are controversial and there is stigma with people who suffer from depression or anxiety. Hence your reference "there are meds for that..."
Just gathering ideas about the subject--if you don't like my opinion you are free to look elsewhere.
Flower Power can NOT be trolling folk. If you look at this whole thread she has been giving great advice. Disagree with her but she aint a troll!
I loved Lexapro. It really lifted y spirits. Pristiq (the new Effexor) really knocked my depression out cold but I also lost the desire to do anything in life (even meet production at work!).
In the end, I learned what is really best for me are good sleeping medications. I have prescritions for ambien and remron (very low dose) that I take on an as need basis. Lots of things that would have been hard in life are not because of those medications.
Thanks sounds ignorant but I always wished I'd stop cold turkey. I guess I need to drive 2hours from my house for treatment. No way am I going to see my regular GP & admit I'm an alcoholic. Too embarrassing!

Embarrassing is not getting help! The only shame is continuing alcoholic behaviour.
For alcoholics, there are many help groups available. I personally have seen AA save people. I dont want to go off-topic any more, except to say that if you take the time to find the right group for you, you will witness your own miracle.
One thing relevant to both of these issues is the depression link, and that we as humans want things to happen right away. NOW!! Thats why we have drive-thru, drink, and thats why we medicate. Any healing process has ups and downs and takes time, sometimes a lot. It happens in "it's" time, not ours. Being patient and persistent is a huge component in healing yourself.
Best wishes for a happy and sober future for you.
Also an issue to take into consideration~Most insurance policies don't have great coverage for mental health
issues, if any at all. This stuff takes a lot of time to get right in most cases it is needed. Most peoples coverage is not enough to follow through on from a financial standpoint. When I was on the Med/Psych train, my coverage changed every year, so the doctors did too . . . Each one had an opinion very different from the last. There was no continuity. I could write more, but I will spare it for the sake of sanity and brevity. When it comes to psychiatry, your odds are about the same as the slots at a casino
That is something that is, sadly, lacking the system for mental health is sad, especially if one does not have good coverage OR coverage at all.

Watch it with the ambien...I had one of those awful side effects I would get up and do things I did not remember!!!!!!
I know someone who started with 20 and is now taking 40 mg of Celexa daily. She says it has made a huge difference and I notice a huge difference. She used to get upset very easily and fly off the handle/fly into rages over things that wouldn't upset most people. Now she is much calmer and I haven't seen her get like that once since she started the medication. She says she likes it.
Thanks! How long does this take. Costs? Prescriptions? Hospital stays? If its a nine month long procedure I better fake a pregnancy now than admitting to alcoholism.
There are many different treatments for alcoholism. You need to find a good fit for you! If you are uncomfortable talking to your GP, do you speak with any other type of doctors?

Not everyone has the same side effects, though.
Sleep deprivation is horrid.
Yes, that has happened to me as well. Just last Saturday actually I woke up and found my furniture had been moved around! I had absolutely no memory of doing it. Scary stuff.
