I've noticed that I always seem to grow distant from people once they have kids or move away. No matter how hard we try to keep things the same, such events change the whole complexion of the relationship/friendship in question.
Can you honestly you're as close to your friends and/or family members as you were when you were young?

I've never maintained relationships. For me, it's out of sight, out of mind. I don't like discussing the past ad infinitum (though it was what we had in common and enjoyed at the time), and I simply lose interest in people.
I believe I lack compassion and am generally not a very nice person because I recognize that I do not want the responsibility of keeping up a friendship at a distance. I've always been drawn to one-on-one love relationships, and when those end, I start a new one - or not, depending on how things turn out.
