What is the psychology behind people who walk with the hands stuffed in their pants pockets all the time? It just looks so bizarre. I am not referring to the behavior outside during the winter as I understand that people's hands may get cold but what is the reason people do it indoors?

Once a bunch of friends and I got on the subway in Manhattan, and this random homeless man who looked like the living incarnation of Popeye started lecturing one of my guy friends, who was leaning against the subway pole with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

The old guy said, "Hey! Don't stand there with your hands shoved down in your pockets like that!! You gotta have 'em out like this! You gotta be ready for anything!!"

IDK. I might be more concerned about people who fixate on minor details like that. Most people don't notice things like that.

I suspect it is just to have the arms supported and a place for the arms to be.

Occasionally, you run into people who can't figure out what to do with their arms.

How does this manner of walking harm anyone else? Why do you care?

If you really think you need to know, why not ask the person doing the behavior?

There's no psychology behind that. It's just the way some people walk.

Wow, I wrote a couple of sentences about a peculiar behavior that might make an interesting topic of conversation in a forum. I didn't know the bar for defining fixation has been moved so low now.

There was once a Seinfeld episode that focused on another peculiar walking habit.
