I have one of those. I just didn't know what it was called!

I have a perfectly normal, easy-to-spell name. Unfortunately, it sounds like every other 4-letter J name to people on the other side of the counter. So half the time when they call my name, they are calling out another common name, not mine, that I of course assume is someone else's.

I chose the name Barbara since it is the name of a dear friend of mine who died. I like hearing her name called out like she is still in the world of the living and to date I have never had one person who thought I said something else when I said my name was Barbara. If I need a fake name for some internet purpose, I still use Barbara, plus the last name of my best male friend who died. I think my late friends would think it's funny I joined them in the afterlife and created a person who has actually gotten mail at my house (those internet companies are SO cagey).

I tend to avoid different names that go down in writing............because they then run the risk of needing to be listed on security forms in the AKA slot.

Now, as things go, I do have dance stage names and a glamor name, Aja (AH-JAh),......they just tend not to be in writing anywhere.

I didn't know about this, but it's a great idea. I have a shorter, but seemingly unpronounceable, foreign name. If asked, I spell it, rather than pronounce it, to prevent the poor cashier from giving me that look of utter fear as they don't know how to begin to spell it. However, even though it's spelled on the cup, the barista will look at it rather confused for a few seconds, then just announce my drink... haha. Everytime.

From now on, I'm gonna be Vixen... because I see that Buck Naked has been already taken & I wish to avoid embarrassing mix ups!
