For years I have been prescribed a small dose of Adderall. 10mg dose, but that little bit has a MAJOR and almost instant effect on my energy to do pretty much anything.
I can focus for hours without a break
I can write memos, develop new ideas, create things I never thought myself capable of doing
Give very good advice and think and rethink fast enough to develop concise thoughts that normally take trial and error
Most importantly, my brain's reaction time I feel like it doubles
Workwise it means any job I am asked to do I do better and quicker.
In the events I do make mistakes somewhere I am faster at resolving those errors in the best light or quickly developing a plan for how to fix the problem going forward
But if I stopped taking this amphetamine salt pill, I would not function the same
Is this pill safe? Am I giving others an uneven playing field? I don't like to say I endorse medication but I really like my Adderall. The side effect I am familiar with is insomnia which is why the best is take it in the morning, and take it easy after supper
OP, That's a small dose and it makes all the difference in how you function. So I wouldn't stress over it, people are prescribed this med for a reason. I wish I had something that worked like that. There are potential side effects to taking Ibuprofen and other over the counter pills too. The bottom line is that it works for you, and you have remained on a low dose, so I see that as a win/win situation.
My niece takes one of the ADHD meds, although not one of the three you listed. It's made the difference for her from being depressed, anxious, unable to focus (before the med) and being able to hold down a job, live on her own, and have self confidence. She was not diagnosed w/ this until she was in her mid-teens.
The benefit is supposed to outweigh the drawbacks for medication. When it does, keep using it.
You're referring to cases in which people took these meds without being diagnosed with the disorder, a completely different issue than that presented in the OP.
Plenty of people abuse all types of prescription medications.
