I agree with borderline. Which would make a conversation with her about it most likely unproductive and quite heated.

Many true personality disorders are very difficult to successfully treat, and don't respond well to a wide range of treatments.

That's not entirely true, especially with BPD. It's no longer a hopeless diagnosis that can't be helped or fixed. There has been great success treating BPD with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), but it still goes back to what I and others have said, if she doesn't want to change or get healthy their's nothing you can do for her.

Nina N - I've been reading some experiences from those dealing with borderline pd and they agree with you.

TabulaRasa - ty for commenting, I'm preparing that this may be a long battle

WeHa - Hopefully, she's ready for a change. I have to prepare if she isn't. Thank you for providing a treatment option that we may need.

texdav - My brothers, an uncle and my husband agree with you. And a huge part of me does too.

Some of them are true mental illnesses and can be helped by meds. It's foolish to say otherwise (would anyone say schizophrenia is a 'learned behavior?'), and in this case, a doctor's visit is absolute necessity.

My post was worded wrongly, I guess. Of course, there are true mental illnesses. Forget my point at the time I made the post, so I can't clarify now.

Thank you for your thoughts nonchalance.

And of course there are also spoiled brats.

Hence the need for real medical diagnosis.
