Pets give unconditional love and are always happy to see you. With people, they can love you one day and then hate you the next. That is why.

While i love my Dog, i don't think i would choose his well-being over my mother or other important people in my life.So why do some people care more about their Pets than People?

In my observation, it's people who have trouble getting along with others who devote themselves in a somewhat extreme way to their pets. It's people who are maladjusted in some way, and struggle in their efforts to get along with humans, including with their own family members.

Pets love you, they don't judge you, they don't complain about how you let them down. Pets tend to be more loyal in some ways than humans, not entirely but in some ways.

That would be my guess, add a couple of dashes of misanthropy on top to finish it off and there you go.
