starting in November, my mood starts to plummet. though, I haven't noticed much of a difference this year because I was already depressed anyway. the only reason I am not that bad in December is because I enjoy the holiday season. and from January to march I am usually downright miserable. last year I was looking forward to summer too much, because when it arrived, it was a huge nightmare and full of disappointments.
I might get some vitamin D supplements and see if that helps. though, I have a feeling I am going to need something stronger than that this year, like booze & antidepressants.
I try to make sure that I keep exercising at least four days a week. that seems to help. I am already socially withdrawn, but I just get worse during the winter because everyone else acts like d-bags. from November through march, I might go out like once or twice, but that's it. otherwise, I just hole myself in, read, watch Netflix and just sulk.
I don't have a way to cope. I'm single living in a place I hate and the winters here are bad. Holidays are very depressing and then you have January-March to freeze your a*s off. Sucks. I am already depressed.
Get involved in some local group events, or volunteer...just to get your feet wet in your new community. There are also online support groups....it takes time to adjust to a new community, especially single...But, you have to look for things you have an interest in...that you can become involved in. Good luck to you.
It isn't so much the dark for me, as it is all the stresses of snow and ice and winter driving that do it for me. As far as coping during the winter months...I watch a lot of movies and read and cook big meals. And, thank goodness for internet and CD
Same way I cope with the temperature being above or below 72, or eating supper at 5:45 or 6:15, or arriving at some traffic lights when they are red. Sometimes, things are not as I wish them to be. Even things I can control, when it's not worth the effort to do so.
It's here again - those dark winter months where many people go to work in the darkness, and leave in the darkness. As I age, I seem to be having a greater difficulty adjusting to it.
I don't mind the cold that much, just the darkness! I left work tonight and it was pitch black, 50 degrees, raining, and hard to see. It was utterly miserable. During these months, I barely do anything after work, other than go to the gym two or three times a week, and basically come home and sit on the computer or play Playstation.
How do you cope with the winter months?
3 things
Supplements- if things really suck
St. Johns Wort is a good supplement for depression, but it can react with medications
Also look for Lithium Orotate (placed under tongue)
Both are over the counter and can be found at any vitamin shop
or try getting a little light into the skin
The tanning bed for a minute or two, or solarium
Once a month is more than enough
You will look and feel fabulous..
And you need to go out! Coffee shop, book stores, cozy fun paces to meet other people who are probably going through the same thing as you.
Good Luck

How do you cope with the winter months?
I do mind the cold so I moved to south Florida, I used to get winter depression. When the trees lose their leave they look dead to me, so now down here for the most part they don't lose their leaves, plus we are closer to the equator so parts of our year we get more daylight than up north.
How do I cope? Wonderfully. Ask me how I cope with the intense summer months, though. I love when the sun sets early and I love when snow is on the forecast, and get disappointed when it ends up not snowing at all. I like low sun and lack of brightness hope I get a little paler over the winter. A little whiter in winter, a little darker in summer, that's how I like to look!
