It's readily apparent that the people in this country are becoming de facto citizens of Idiocracy. Rational, reasoned, thoughtful discourse has been replaced with extreme viewpoints, shouting, and bullying. It's a bully society. The politicians, the police, everyone in power is more than willing to use force to remain in power, and to fend off and/or destroy anyone that differs with them.

This article below in Psychology Today on the dumbing down of America, and who is doing it and why, sums up what is happening, and has been happening for many years. As we move rapidly down the road toward fascism and totalitarianism and away from actual democracy, we will see what we see now. Donald Trump, an obvious racist and hate mongerer, who is actually leading the Republican party's nomination process. He isn't just a media invention. Rather, he speaks (or shouts) to many people in this country who hate intellectuals, are biased against intelligence, and distrust anyone different than themselves. He understands how the psychology of Americans operate. Love him or hate him, he knows exactly what he's doing. He's the super ego for a huge percentage of the population.

Before posting this thread I did a search in google, which is easily the most popular search engine used on the internet today (and a prime example of things being dumbing down) using the search words "usa today dumbed down". Then I used the same search term in duckduckgo, a search engine some people may have not even heard of. The differences in the results were considerable, especially in how much more accurate the results were in the latter search engine. The first search engine preferred to directed me to ads, not results. I think that google believes that people are too stupid to notice.

Seriously, you've got to hate the years where there is a Presidential election as it only magnifies the polarization of the United States.
Our present and future leaders step up to the podiums and stir up the hearts and emotions of the country.
The truth is, if you don't like or can't handle the Donald, turn him off.
It's that simple.
But the truth is, he's a circus act and we all like watching a slow moving train wreck.
However, if you don't take him seriously, he's very entertaining.

It's a bilateral dumbing down actually.

Conservatives want the education system to be socially stratified, because keeping business owners as a social class, and workers as a class appeals to them.

When Class Became More Important to a Child's Education Than Race - The Atlantic

Liberals having been dumbing down education because they like the idea of bull**** government propaganda programs like Common Core and teaching to tests.

UPDATED: Angry Parent Destroys Common Core by writing this on son's test - Allen West Republic

My attempt at completing my first grader

(If that's a math problem, that is retarded. You now need a ****ing diagram to solve a simple math problem with no carrying? Who needs to spend entire pages adding "doubles"?)

Common Core textbook rewrites Second Amendment - Liberty Unyielding

(The 2nd amendment does technically allow citizens and not "militia" to bear arms. But not only if they are registered or if you are not a felon)

In conclusion, Conservatives are doing it to "keep people in their place" out of a sense of being racist, etc. They teach the lower classes only what they think they need, not what could help them become more successful. Liberals are in favor of Marxist doctrine, and like the idea of programming kids to be good little Stormtroopers.

Which is why I've been saying for years that we need to vote third party.

I agree completely. While I do consider myself a conservative, I must say that I've never seen a so-called "conservative" politician ever actually represent what I stand for.

You bring up great points about both sides. Most people are too blinded by their own ideology to look at actual facts.

Common core is a joke and (just like you said) is basically government propaganda whose goal is to make future generations more dependent and conforming. Yet, liberals think this is the new golden standard that will fix the entire country's education disaster.

And I live in Georgia, a republican run state, in a republican run county, in a republican run city. My county school system is said to be one of the best in the state and by far the best in the area. Yet, only the more "affluent" schools hold any "Best in State" titles, the rest are as bad as any inner city public schools (due to overcrowding, lack of teaching talent, poorly motivated administrators, etc.). However, no one ever points this out. The school board acts as if the "other half" of the county just doesn't exist. This is because their take on "conservatism" (which I completely disagree with) means they aren't obligated to provide the same amount of funding or attention to those poorer schools. This simply means the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Everyone knows this, but they just look away and pretend not to notice.

Both sides are about helping their own causes and refuse to look at the big picture.

As far as the dumbing down of America... there's nothing that can be done at this point. People are too caught up in their own lives or their favorite TV shows or what car the Jones' just got for Christmas. Their freedom is being stolen from right underneath their noses but they simply don't care enough to notice or say anything. As long as they get to go to mall this weekend and get that new house/car and get their promotion they're content. No one looks at the big picture.

I'm all about making yourself happy and I'm all about material items, too. But, at this point it is clear our society has become way too individualistic. It's time we step up and protect each other before the ruling class takes over.

My recommendation: everyone starts playing Sudoku

Ever since I started solving Hard/Challenging Sudoku puzzles, I've been able to cut through the bull**** and see what's really happening, what people really mean when they say XYZ thing, I see that everything that ever happens is a continuation or a repeat of things from past history, I see that "there's nothing new under the sun except what was forgotten"

People who were "advanced" in past history ended up getting overrun by barbarian-types
I knew this before but we'll see it again for sure!

I found Buddhism
I found Libertarianism AKA circa late 1700s classic free-market Liberalism (not today's so-called liberalism which is a damned monster eating our children) -- what good Libertarianism will do I don't know, a Libertarian president would probably get assassinated lickety-split

I am reading about the Jews who are actually running things, everything's on puppet strings

I'm a Jew, what am I running? What exactly are you saying?

Well if I said, "[fill in the blank]s are running things," and someone said, "I'm one of those, what am I running?"

That would be like saying,
"Liberals are running things"

and I say

"I'm a Liberal, what am I running?"

It doesn't make sense. Ordinary people don't run things.

But there are two classes of Liberals: Libertarian (free market Liberal) and this new monstrous child-devouring group of Liberals I want nothing to do with, who advocate for Socialism and group subjugation under the elites

I have a sneaking suspicion that these elites are Jewish bankers
Are you a Jewish banker?
Or a Jew that respects the general happiness, well-being, and freedom of the combined peoples of Earth? There are more of the latter than the former yet the former is the 1% I am concerned about, who own 99% of everything and will simply buy up my personal freedom

They can have all that money, I don't care
But can they kindly take their foot off of me+everyone please?
I want the freedom to do what I want
Or am I going to have to get a flame-thrower and start burning all the papers they write
Who decided I was stupid and unworthy of handling my own finances before I was born?
