Is it really an indecisive "yes"? Is it a lack of enthusiasm when asked to do something, and they say "sure" instead of yes? Or better yet, why do they say "of course" when someone ask them a question of confirmation of something such as "am I your one and only"? and he says, "of course"? why say all of that, instead of "yes". doesn't that sound a bit off?

This sounds like grump. Does it sound a bit off? Nope. It's language. We've been saying those words to each other for decades. Most people find saying "of course" and "sure" to be much more satisfying than just plainly answering "yes" to a question. I know I do.

"Sure" hedges a bit. It's not a definitive "YES!!!!"

Depends on intonation. Sure is an affirmative that is accepted by everyone as such.

I like it a lot better than absolutely as an all purpose affirmative.

It depends on how I say it, I could mean:

"Sure, but I don't really want to" or "Sure, it's no big deal"

that's a good point,,,, its not what a lady says,,,it HOW she says it

so "sure" could have 44 definitions....like the word "fine"

We each choose the words we like to speak....
No one is better than the other....in my opinion.
