GuitarArt1980,I'm 5'9",200 lb.,so it'd be kinda strange for someone to call me "big guy." (Though I've been called "boss" a few times by younger folk .) Burt Reynolds played lots of characters called "Buddy"

Calling a person 'bud' can be a way to try to create closeness where none or very little exists, but it can be a false closeness, when used pertaining to people who are not actually close or do not even know each other or are just acquaintances.
