What does it mean when you're being called "bud"? (men, adult)

Hello,


I have had a few instances where I've been called "bud"(never "buddy" though). Most common in the work place "thanks, bud!" Sometimes by coworkers or even customers will call me bud. My new workout trainer calls me"bud" (but also switches up to "man" sometimes too). I'vea lways felt it was a friendly, but slightly demeaning term. Something you'd call your 5 year old nephew that just helped you rake the lawn." Thanks for helping with the lawn, bud!" Did they really help you? No, not really.




I feel as if the people that call me bud don't take me serious? Am I going about this correctly, or is it just a friendly term that I shouldn't be spinning?

You are probably reading something negative into it. Some guys use it as a generic, friendly way to address other guys. Just let it go.

Not demeaning at all. Its just a friendly term. I say it all the time to people that I like. So chances are, they call you Bud because they like you.

Don't try to read to much into it. It's the same as calling someone Dude, Pal, or Man. It's short for your name. If anything it could be that the person forgot your name, but Bud is a lot faster than saying some names.

I do say bud to kids more than I do adults. My dad still calls me bud.

I'm not too conscious about it, but I may say it to others at work. For me its just a friendly greeting...sometimes its because I forget their name, other times its just habit/convenience.

I also say "hey guys," when talking to a group of men and women. Although I've been trying to say "hey everyone," instead.

Truthfully ? It's probably that they either don't know your name or what they are doing is taking up so much of their concentration that they forget it and to save them the embarrassment, they call you bud.

the tone and context of the situation should tell you which

my wife tells me that SOMETIMES when she asks me to do something, and I simply say "ok" or "sure", she KNOWS that what I really mean is **** Off...she is very perceptive...
