^'Empirical' was my thought, too-seems closest to what OP described, reasoning based upon what one has experienced firsthand.

Maybe 'experiential' ? Possibly even the "availability heuristic" ? It's not the same thing, but I'm just casting about for ideas...

OP here. Keep trying folks. Nothing rings a bell so far; I'm beginning to think it's a false memory. To clarify, this term describes someone who makes the overwhelming majority of decisions based solely on his or her experiences even when they have no experience. We all do this at one time or another (engaging in a one off unsafe practice when we know better) but I'm talking about someone who does this all the time. Clear as mud?

Are you talking about a noun or an adjective? That might help a little.
Do you mean a word for "a person who..." or a word to describe "a person who..."?
