As this year is nearly over , what has been your best /worst year on this planet?

I will start

Best -2013 completed my life in college so that was good , also 2015 got a great job

Worst - 2014 , unemployed for most of it and my grandma died in July.

I don't really have any. Good and bad things happen every year. For all the bad things, outside of death, I have learned something. And all the good things I try to always remember for those bad days Nothing has destroyed me but the worst year of my life will be if my husband goes first.

And if I really had to pick a best it was 1998 when I moved in with my DH

Best - Retiring Rich at age 40, Super intelligent beautiful wife and three wonderful kids. Ideal life.

Worst - 1 Month after retirement finding out I have a genetic disease that is going to lead to a slow (approx 5-10 year) death that is extremely painful and will just continue to grow more and more painful until I die.

New Worst - Finding out I passed the genetic trait to all of my kids. They are already showing signs of the disease and are in so much pain I had to remove them from school. They probably will not live to see 18.

Best: 1998.. I had just split with my ex-wife in late '97 and felt like the weight of the world was off my shoulders. I moved, got a really good new job making quite a bit more money, made new friends and started dating again. The entire year was just great from beginning to end..

Worst was probably 2004. The company I was working for had been in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy for a while, and they finally went under. The economy was so-so then and I had a hell of a time finding another job.. I temped most of the year for peanuts that barely was enough to pay the bills, and the whole year was just filled with crap.

Hm. The two worst years of my life were unquestionably 2007 (death of my prior wife) and 2016 (death of my son, which apart from its own demerits, made the election of Trump and the other endless nuttery of the past year seem all the worse). I can't really point to a standout good year, most of the goodness in my life it turns out is concentrated in my professional identity, which is the one steady source of positive feedback and stability in my life overall, and gives me a stream of good moments that have been spread out over the past three decades and change. That and having been brought into this world by loving, good parents who gave me a good foundation, has kept me sane.

2014 - 2016 were the worst. 2016 saw a flood in one house and earthquake damage in the other. Knees and hip got really bad so activities now restricted. Seem to have aged 10 years in this one.

Mordant, so sorry for your devastating losses. Nothing compares to death.

2010 - 2013 were pretty good, before age caught up with me.

Worst: It would be the year I lost my husband of 37 years. BAM! With no warning, fate jerked the world out from under my feet.

Best: 2004 (was in a great relationship), 2009 (loved my new job), 2016 (loved my new job and new town even more than the one from 2009
Worst: 1999 (parents divorced and grandma died) 2006 (aunt died and engagement ended), 2011 (uncle died, job went south)

2015 was bad until August and then I moved to my current town and have enjoyed it since.

Despite some difficulties in the 2008 recession, 2014 was the worst. We lost my mother in law and both of our old dogs that year, and a close family member suffered a serious illness. The best was probably 1993, when we finally moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area after several years of anticipation.
