I don't hear about this ever. So not sure if it's an odd thing about me. But I like the smell of sawdust (wood that has been recently cut), chlorine from indoor pools, smoke from fireplaces when outdoors and skunk. All of these relate to my childhood.
The smell of a freshly opened bee hive.
Freshly plowed ground.
The smell of fresh sorghum being made.
The smell rain on honeysuckle flowers.
The smell of sweetfeed and Alfalfa mixed.

Also, can you add why, if you know?
Sawdust, my Father had construction businesses, so I would smell this in the garage or backyard sometimes.
Chlorine from indoor pools: My family used to go on week end vacations to a hotel with an indoor pool
Fireplace smoke: Walking around my neighborhood as a kid,I'd smell smoke from fires
Skunk: Skunks sprayed a lot around where I grew up

I used to love the smell of gasoline before they ruined it with all those additives. It doesn't smell like it used to. Oh, gun powder, definitely. New car. Fresh carpet. Fresh cut grass. Manure.
For odd smells, that glue cobblers use, but I don't make a habit of hanging out at the shoe repair shop.
Not sure if this is odd, but I love the smell of Patchouli oil. I wore it for 10-yrs (so did my bf at the time) & never got 1 nice comment, so finally stopped wearing it.
My mum used to tell me I smelled like bug spray.
Once, a boss bitterly complained about it & said co-workers didn't like it either... so, I stopped wearing it to work, but it was so permeated into all my clothing, it was impossible to not smell like it all the time. Hey, I was in Seattle during grunge... I thought everyone smelled like it! I felt like Charlie Brown's Pigpen in a cubicle.
And, once I was in the market early morning & little, old ladies were loudly complaining to the manager about the smell of floor washing chemicals... when I walked passed him, he glared at me... it was me & that dang Patchouli!
I haven't worn it for a long time, but I still love it, even though it appears most don't. When I die, I want to be embalmed in Patchouli. At least it will keep the grave robbers away.
