Why do some people try to turn everything into a political discussion? (syndrome, relationship)

I guess depending on what company you keep some people think casually talking trash about Trump/Obama, liberals/conservatives makes them cool. It's kind of childish really. At some point regular people are going to get tired of the political talk and start avoiding them like the plague.
Yeah, sometimes it just gets to be too much. I know people that just wanna slam on trump all day and are obsessed to some degree with belittling him. Whatever, people can have their views but it just gets tiresome as hell to hear and talk about him/it. Actual politics aside the media is so biased against Trump that you can't flip on any show without Trump/politics talk. I just wanna check out at some point here.
I didn't vote for Trump and I get that we're not talking policy as is not the point of the thread.
I'm just sick of it all.
We've got a family member that all she wants to do is rail against him every time we have a family get together. She's probably the epitome of what this thread is about. She's so full of blind hatred that it's almost corrupted her thought patterns. I mean everything is Trumps fault, even to the point of that American ship in the Japanese sea that accidently struck a Japanese fishing ship I thing it was, whatever. We were talking about how in the world with modern satellite guided ships how did something like this happen. She chimed in and said it was Trump's fault. I looked at with a look of how can you actually say something so stupid and willfully ignorant. I asked her how the hell could that be Trump's fault too.
Obviously there are extremists on both sides, but I do think it's worse on the right because there has been a movement to dismiss anything that contradicts with their opinion as fake news and to be not just dismissive but derisive of legitimate news sources. Yes, of course different media outlets have some biases, but they still REPORT accurate and factual news and save the editorializing and opinions for the Op-Ed pages.
But for a lot of conservatives, even Fox News is no longer conservative enough and they believe that totally partisan sites who deal solely in hyperbole and opinion and not well sourced and documented news are accurate and factual. Those extreme sites exist on the left too, but not as many and I don't know people who dismiss NYT and WaPo and CNN and say they are fake and only the extreme sites are correct.
When you have that as the backdrop, people feel like every opinion they have or every stray piece of info regardless of any sourcing for it all has the same value, they don't distinguish between opinions and fact any more. And when you don't have any boundary between those, you end up inserting opinion into every discussion because it's all the same in your mind.
It's all a political strategy by conservatives
In few words, the goal is to make ignorant people feel that they are smart by talking trash about liberals
This strategy is based on the Dunning-Kruger effect (dumb people refusing to admit their ignorance and thinking that they are smarter than they are)
This strategy starts by demonizing everything liberal, including college education
The next step is to treat conservatives as geniuses ... no matter what they say
The next step happens alone after the propaganda has been pushed for a while
Ignorant people (I know several) that are plain dumb
Start talking about politics, they talk trash about liberals and act as if they are smart
"Can you believe what those idiot liberals? .... blah, blah, blah"
The goal for that person is to put other people down to make him/herself feel smart.
I know one person like that who is a total idiot .... but sure loves to talk about politics and "those stupid liberals"
They hate talking to me because I don't play their game
I talk about specific political topics .... when all they know is to talk trash about liberals

This is common to whichever party holds the executive branch. Half of the country will adore them while the other half will blame them for everything that goes wrong.

LOL, it's getting insane.
I agree. I like watching youtube vids and reading the comments at times but when I see a comment talking about Trump on a vid that's completely unrelated to politics I just roll my eyes and scroll past. Because I know what's coming, a political crap-storm where there shouldn't be.
We've somehow gotten into a tribalism us versus them conversation with sound bites all around and of course people not thinking through things themselves and just sorta "taking a side" without understanding issues.
This is a very articulate way of describing what often happens.
I also wonder if the political polarization happens more online than in real life as I've observed people going on with unbelievable politically charged rants online who act much more mild mannered in real life.
However it's a sign of the times. It was probably there for a little while. The world is getting worse. We were seeing progress and then it got worse again. Take the shooting in Orlando for example. I know people have always killed each other but the environment is just different somehow.
When Trump became campaigning, he accelerated it. This fight started with the comment he made about Mexicans. Once it was put out there people took offense and then he attacked back. Supporters will disagree with me but the guy will not take criticism. It's one thing to defend yourself but it's another thing to not accept responsibility for your actions.
I actually hate politics so I hate this has happened. I'd rather go back to when he was just a reality TV show host. I never liked him but I could ignore him then. People say certain previous presidents weren't that great either. That's an okay opinion to have even though I disagree because I liked them all. However we have never had a president this divisive before. You notice people did not turn everything into a political discussion before..not even when Bush was president so that has to tell you something. We've also never had so many protests. People complained but they mostly moved on with their lives.
Since I hate politics normally, that's how you know that this isn't about politics anymore. I might have voted and I might have gave my input here and there but mostly politics bored me. I did pay attention in government class in high school but I got a lot of my political knowledge from shows like School House Rock.
This is about humanity and though the person in question happens to be a political figure that isn't what it is about. It's about rationality. The rational concern is you can't have a leader that wants to pick a fight with everyone.
I think everyone is scared and going insane. It has died down a little but the tension and fear is still there. Trump supporters don't show it but I think a lot of them are scared too. I think they know they made a big mistake in voting for him so they take it out on the other side.
Anyway for me it does get old after a while but I've been on such a long journey that it's difficult to see someone who represents the type of people that have made it difficult for me to succeed. The worst part is a lot of my distaste for him reminds me of my father and this isn't me being biased. This is me being observant. I've experienced a lot of jerks but no one has been that bad before. I was actually starting to move on from him but then a rich version of him comes along so I got side-swiped. I know the damage he has caused so to imagine someone like him as president is even worse. The country is starting to be reminiscent of my childhood too. You of course have Trump but then you have the supporters and his team making excuses for him like my father's mommy did with him. The rest of the country i.e. the non supporters are my mom. They're tired of taking his and his "parents" BS but they keep hauling it and are blamed for things they didn't even do or didn't mean to do. However
I'm not including the violent rioters btw. I'm talking about the more reasonable critics.
This doesn't make me sad but it kinda makes me wonder how this can happen again especially when my father is not a person who was well liked. He has no friends so I'm pretty sure if Trump was not rich or famous he'd be the same way.
Personally I am probably one of those people who sees a lot of things as Trump related now. I don't talk about him to most people IRL but I end up thinking about him/this situation in things that you would think are unrelated but I also do the opposite. I have a complex if not messy brain so what happens is if you talk about jobs I might think about Trump. If you talk about Trump I talk about how I can't get a job. It is very backwards.
It happens with a lot of things though. I don't just go off about things out of the blue but I see patterns so even though I'm always on topic it's easy for me to go on a tangent. For instance I probably do this with musicians although it's more likely if the people had interacted at one time. I'll see someone they used to date and I think hey that's so and so's ex girlfriend. I try not to see them that way but sometimes it's difficult. If someone is talking about astrology I'll think about a person I know of in whatever sign they are talking about. Sometimes I hate this about myself because then I might think about something that I find uncomfortable (and no I'm not talking about Trump I'm talking about triggers) but it is the burden of having this kind of mind. There is a good side to this. I see an actor from a show I like and I might look into their other series so I see series I never would have discovered otherwise that I enjoy.

The deep political divide in this country hapoened long before Trump came along. I've heard from some this accelerating toxic political discourse may have started with the counter culture movement of the 60's.

I've never seen it this bad though. You could say "well you were never interested in politics" but I did observe people and the world. At best maybe it was always there but it never came to the surface.
I do wish sometimes we could talk about something else though. I have noticed that other sections don't have as much active content and sadly all my favorite forums are gone. Of course you can blame Twitter for the latter but one left pretty recently. Sometimes I just talk about Trump because there's nothing else to talk about. I can't talk about any of my shows because they're not in season right now. I used to talk more in the Employment section but I haven't got much useful tips from there.
