Won't work if one is a psychopath.

Exactly. That's what half the discussion on the thread has been about; people with serious personality disorders.

What won't work?

Trying to change their behavior? Trying to get your way with them? Trying to avoid being used by them? None of those are good reasons to be kind anyway.

If you're only kind for those reasons, that's not kindness. That's manipulation and fear.

You can be kind to psychopaths. (Yes, it's true.) You just have to be cautious and not get involved with them. You can treat them with the dignity that all humans deserve. That won't make them any more dangerous or any more safe.

I think some people's idea of kindness is that you turn your will over to people. And that isn't true. You keep all your personal power. You have to if you're going to be a kind person. Actually the more you can do that the more secure you can be in offering kindness to others.

Psychopaths don't have some magic ability to suck you in and abuse you that no one can resist. Knowledge of how they behave is your friend on this one.

Being kind and holding good boundaries can be done at the same time.

That article is a joke. Mean people interpret your kindness as weakness and escalate. Best plan - ignore them. Don't even answer them when they talk to you. Act like they do not exist. It's hilarious because chances are that no one has ever treated them that way. It works.

What do you mean by "it works?"
