There is a letter to the editor in today's Los Angeles times in response to an article about box office returns for movies being down in the last few months. The writer, a female from Glendale (CA), is saying basically that no wonder box office returns are down because she refuses to see certain sorts of movies. Her preferences did not seem strange to me, except for one:

She refuses to see any movie in which there are primarily male leads. Whoa! What could cause such a thing? An alcoholic father who mistreated both her and her mother? If that sort of chldhood experience can result in permanent hatred of half of humanity, it's a terrible and deeply discouraging thing.

I don't know when I've been quite so shocked by anything I read in a daily newspaper.

Have you visited the Work & Employment forum lately? How about the Politics forum?

Many threads devolve into an "us" vs. "them" squabble. I don't understand it, because I don't subscribe to it, nor do I treat people that way in real life. Sometimes I think people just like to vent and to point fingers, because it makes them feel like they are doing something about it.

No, I haven't visited the two forums you mentioned. From what you wrote, it sounds I am doing the right thing by staying away.
