Also, when my cat sheds a whisker, I pick it up, and stash it with my other little "lucky" bits.

The effect of all this is a simple matter of feeling positive and grateful and happy. And there is nothing wrong with taking any opportunity to do that, I figure.
That's great that someone else does this, too

I also have a collection of "found treasures" similar to yours.

My maternal grandparents' side, early 19th century Appalachian Scots-Irish, had lots of them, which were passed down to my mom's generation (though she doesn't really hold with them, just recalls them). Most of them are rooted in old Irish folklore. A lot are rooted around birth, death and afterlife. A bird in the house means a death is coming...putting a knife under the bed during a home birth "cuts the pain in two," etc.

I have certain rituals, but they're not really superstition-based. I don't let my husband (or probably my kids, when they're old enough to leave the house on their own) leave the house without telling him I love him. My mom always did that, with some superstition attached to it..for her, it was like a talisman warding off anything bad happening to anybody. For me, it's more in case something bad does happen, nobody ever leaves without being reminded that they are loved.

I hate superstitious people. Is that okay to say?

Well, the "hate" part seems over the top.

They are always portrayed as being amusing in TV or movies. But in reality they are really unpleasant people.

Another overly broad, over the top statement. You've met all of them, I take it.

I'll give you an example. I worked at one temp job where there was a file that was causing a glitch in their system. I looked at it one day and found it had it had "666" as the identifier in one section that linked it to something else. In other words, the person who had caused all of these problems just didn't want to have to deal with that because of his religious superstition.

Is that acceptable behavior to you?

I also think that a lot of these people are just not very nice or pleasant people. I don't know what has caused them to be that way. Maybe I should feel more bad for them, I agree. But that doesn't mean I have to like them for no reason.
