In some of the recent threads it feels like men are posing that old question asked by Freud and others, "What do women want?" I can only speak for myself, and what I'm attracted to, not for anybody else. And I've had to think about it carefully.

In another thread there was a reference to human activity in terms of primate behavior. There is a story about a female great ape in captivity: her handlers wanted her to produce offspring and showed her videos of males at other facilities. She showed marked interest in one of the potential mates and sharp disinterest in all the others. She picked her own mate, based on watching the films. IIRC, it worked out and she produced offspring in due time. One wonders what she saw in that one ape versus all the others.

Again, I can only speak for myself, my preferences, but for me, looks don't matter that much. I'm attracted to character of a certain kind, and intelligence of a certain kind. Depth of knowledge, insight into human behavior and themselves, deeply offended by dishonesty, bravery in the face of pain, independent, self-directed. Not someone who complains, brags or lies.

What do women want?

Well they certainly don't want to be generalized or stereotyped into one simple question as if they all want the same thing.

Right. I stressed that I was only speaking for myself, no one else. I said it twice, actually.

Then shouldn't the title of your thread have been, "What Do I Want?"

Well no; the phrase "What do women want" is a very famous, literary one.

What, exactly, is a "real man"?
