I can see some value in getting away from material matters, but keeping the TV makes it strange, including that you'll still be seeing and hearing people. And that version of "people" will be much more removed from reality. Plus, there's so much garbage on TV. Personally, I'd rather get rid of the TV than people.

Or is this some kind of mental/emotional matter, like a midlife crisis? I can't help but see this as some kind of weird dream and/or selfish whim.

You really need to explain yourself further, beyond this rough idea you're sharing. Explain the need and justification for it.
Don’t watch garbage then. I watch classic movies and great TV shows, and being in the industry it’s necessary and enjoyable research. I understand OP, most of the time I would rather be doing my own thing than interacting with anyone. Though I love my time with my GF and friends.

The problem I think is people get themselves into too many responsibilities they don’t really want because “that’s just what you do.” It’s not what I do. I get up every day and mostly do whatever I want and it’s amazing. There are days like today I had to deal with a bunch of accounting which sucked, but by and large you can choose the life you want. If you decide to have kids though don’t be surprised when your life isn’t really yours anymore. That should come as zero surprise to anyone.

oh I will watch tv...movies...listen to radio...but I can turn that off and on when ever
I will read...play guitar...do some writing...find some other solo fun activities or hobbies
But I don't want to talk or interact with anyone
I want to be left alone...I think a year will do it

I am a spouse and parent...however...and have a full time job...family...friends...

what is wrong with me
I fantasize and dream about this a lot
You just need a break. I say a lot 'I need to sleep for a year'. Or I used to. Until I realized I simply wasn't getting enough sleep on the regular. Allowing myself to sleep as much as I need to most of the time cures that feeling.

Not so unusual. I think that is why so many extremely wealthy people become isolated - they no longer need to be in society for work or services, etc.

In your case, it doesn't sound like a viable option, so probably best not to fantasize about it, but I can relate! I often feel like that.

hopefully her ADHD kicked in so that she didn't pay attention to your response to her question, or lack thereof...
