Why are evil historical figures more recognized? Why are villains in popular culture praised more than the heroes? Why are bullies viewed cooler than nice guys? Why does bad news get more coverage than good news?
To at least a tiny extent, because evil people are willing to do the things we won't allow ourselves to. They have no morals or limits stopping them whereas most people might like to do something if they could get away with it, or if they dared to, but they don't.
So yes, we admire good people but we're all supposed to strive to be good so in a sense that's pretty ordinary. Evil people do the unspeakable.
Of course we all have an inner demon! No one is 100% good or 100% evil.

Am I missing something from the formula
Do we have an inner demon or something???
Any particular examples of praising evil historical figures?
Anyone praised Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Mao, Nero, Bin Laden, Lenin, Mengele, Assad, Castro, Jong-il, Manson etc... ?
Who is considering them cool? You?
Bad news get more coverage than good news because it's a better seller.
I think some of us find evil people fascinating, but most people don’t praise them. Frankly, I don’t know what you are talking about in your post. How about some examples of what you take issue with?
The only reasons I'm fascinated by evil people and their acts are, 1. I want know what caused them to make the choices they did, 2. How did they get away with committing these wicked acts before finally getting caught? I don't praise them, admire them, want to be like them, etc. Though there are odd balls out there that do - I've known two or three.

Don't include me in your generalizations.
Support your contention - do you admire evil people? Do you praise villains in popular culture? Do you think bullies are cooler than nice guys?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions explain why.
Bad news gets more exposure than good news because it is out of the ordinary; that is a far cry from what you're proposing as fact.
I have a BS in psych. But my guess is that not much has changed. They try to explain human behavior, but for some reason seem to ignore lust, greed, hatred, envy etc. And evil nature in people as driving forces in people.
