If that is your impression, you should examine where you get your information about what's really going on in our "culture." Hint. You won't find it in media, entertainment or good ol' C-D. Interact with real people you know in real life.
Anecdotal evidence still counts
You could argue overdescipline in our culture is a broader symptom of capitalism and hustle culture.
Too much positive, when let's face it, that would be a stretch with a child anyway. Why? It isn't going to be like that in the real world, and you'll end up creating a "snowflake", and if you are creating "pride" where none really exists, you'll create a very undesirable co-worker/friend/significant other for someone else in the long run.
Over discipline? There probably isn't such a thing. There is severe physical and emotional punishment, but that is not discipline.
