My sisters have told me you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes. They size men up by their shoes- quality of the shoe, condition of it, etc. It's not the tell all, but you can start there.

Is there anything else that you use to assess people, such as shoes or a car? Not necessarily the cost of these things, but the condition, style, etc.

Or maybe it's something physical like finger nails, teeth, hairstyle?

Facial expressions and eye contact - what kind do they go around wearing and do they make good eye contact when they speak with me.

Shoes? That is funny. I knew a girl who said when she meets guys the first thing she would look at is their shoes. She said she would never date a guy wearing flip flops while not at the beach.

For me its eye contact and the way they speak - i.e., their use of correct grammar and the way they pronounce their words. You can tell a lot about a person by just listening to them speak.

Agreed -- grammar, syntax, and vocabulary are huge to me.

My mother used to say that she could determine someone's level of education by listening to them speak.

This has also been valuable for me. I am on the phone with customers all day. I can usually tell the reason they are calling by their tone of voice and how much they are in command of the facts. I have been doing this for several years, so I have gotten good at it.

When they call and have all of their pertinent information at their fingertips and have a relaxed and friendly manner, I can just tell. This person has a credit score in the high 700s. And I'm usually right.

When they seem nervous, impatient, don't have their financial info ready, have no idea how to find it and there are crying children or traffic noise in the background, this is a bad sign. We're talking a credit score in the 500s.

I'm not judgemental. I treat all human being the same way they treat me, or should I say assess.

My foolproof way is the waiter test. Watch how somebody treats the waiter, for in six months that's how that person will be treating you.

Clothes aren't a good tip off, because I've known very wealthy people perfectly content with looking frumpy, and I've known people who were practically broke who dressed immaculately.

In fact, I know one very successful man who wears overalls when he makes any major purchase such as a car. That way, he isn't being sized up by the salesman.

I judge people by how judgemental they are. Id rather be alone than put up with nit pickers.

If someone is pleasant company and has a sense of humour and I dont care which fork they use. Or even if they use popular punktuation.
