Unless they want kids, it gets them nothing. I still want kids, and while marriage without doesn't make much sense, I would do that too. But I'm different.

I am a single man and lonely but the hope of one day finding the right woman and marrying her and having a family is what keeps me going.

Reading these comments is totally making be strach my head. I must totally always end up with the wrong men .... because no one I have ever dated ever expressed wanting to have kids. The one I married said he wanted kids a first. We had one and not even 2 year later decided he did not want to have any more kids ( or maybe at least with me?).

Being single suck and being married sucks. I am not sure what is left lol.

I too hope for that but accept that it will likely never happen. So my "worst case scenario" is to achieve the state that makes me happy and fulfilled without a committed relationship (though frequent-enough flings are not too bad). The energies and resources that would be given to relationship/family can be channeled into other endeavors.

Now with us separated and her living in an Assisted Living facility, I find myself alone quite often. Of course, after such a length of time without being able to be in contact with family or other people, including those at work, I don't have any close relationships with any other people. The only close social contacts I've had over the past few years has been with older, retired couples that are much older than me and obviously with completely different interests and levels of activity.

Looking forward into middle age, with no family or a spouse to speak of, and with the financial future looking bleak at best (see my other topic Spousal Impoverishment for more details), I don't see much to look forward to. I certainly have a hard time going through the motions everyday without any real purpose. I'm beginning to hate eating alone, going out alone, and trying to find activities to do that can be done alone.

So, that's the premise of my post. For those guys who are pretty much relegated to being single forever, what keeps you going? What makes life interesting to you? What do you do to keep from going nuts and climbing the walls? Do you ever get over being lonely? Do you miss having a sexual relationship, or do you find ways to have a sex life somehow?
Most women are a pain in the ass to deal with. I never got married and never will. You need to find more activities to do to keep your time more fulfilling. Don't rely on women to do that for you. In the long run, they are more trouble than it's worth.

Tell your gender to stop screwing over men in custody battles in court. That might be a start.

Tell your gender to quit thinking with your small head when you make that decision to get married to that specific person and then have children with them.

Due to my gender neutral username please note I am a man. Just FYI. And I think with the head located between my shoulders, which is why I never married the wrong woman. I was smart enough to know the women I loved, none of them would have been suitable as a lifetime partner.
