If you want fancy:
THE PERFECT CAPER Restaurant ~ Special Events ~ 121 East Marion Ave ~ Punta Gorda ~ Florida (http://www.theperfectcaper.com/index.asp - broken link)

Some people like Dean's but I don't care for it:
Dean's South of the Border

River City is OK:
River City Grill, Punta Gorda - Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor

Laishley Crab House is in PG. The view is great, food-so-so:

Again, good view food, not so good, IMO:
Harpoon Harry's, Punta Gorda - Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor

Lulu's in the Wyvern is pretty good:
The Wyvern Hotel Offers Elegantly Appointed Accommodations in Punta Gorda, FL

And my favorite PG Restaurant is Pies and Plates:
Pies & Plates, Punta Gorda FL 33950

I've heard Phil's 41 is good but I've never been there:

To add a few to SoFlGal's post....
Seafood: Village Fish Market (fisherman's village), Riviera Oyster Bar (southern PG on Alligator Creek) and Peace River Seafood (about 4 miles east of town)
Captains Table (upstairs from Harpoon Harry's in fisherman's village-gorgeous view!)
Portofino (on the Port Charlotte side of the river, but technically still Punta Gorda)-GREAT view
Downtown Corridor: Jacks, Table 209, Santhino's, Icehouse Pub, Manatee's Pizza, Tapas One, Papillon, Spazzi Italian Grill, more that I can't think of right now....

Also, these restaurants are not chain restuarants. Many (besides the pizza type places - which also serve other very good Italian food) have skilled chefs that are not from your chain type restaurants. If you like to EAT well, Punta Gorda will fit that bill.

I know it's a chain but anyone been to Kumo? One of our neighbors set up kind of a meet and greet at the one in North Port tonight. We are going along with 2 other couples from the neighborhood and they have invited some of the newer couples in the neighborhood so we can all meet. Nice idea for all of us to get to know each other since we are scattered all over the different streets here.

Anyway, comments on Kumo?

Kumo is excellent. I love the Hibachi fillet and lobster. A friend who is really into sushi said theris is first rate.even though a little pricey it is always rammed when we go which is a good sign
