I'm planning to do some boating around Charlotte Harbour this winter. (Not out in the gulf.) I'm wondering if my 15' aluminum boat would be ok. (It's not a deep V so should be ok for most shallow areas.) Would it be safe assuming I avoid the rough days?

Thanks in advance
John

There are a lot of smaller boats like your around. But like you said, avoid rough days (which is most of the winter). The harbor is choppy almost all winter long

If you haven't bought this boat yet, I'd recommend not. If you do own it already, I'd follow the advice of the others above. The question will become, can you find fish in the areas you can safely get to in this boat. What sort of a motor does it have? The challenge is crossing the harbor to get to the hot mangrove spots or the rivers. That will depend on where you are coming from.

I'm all for living out life in the boat you're in but . . . you treat the harbor as you would the Gulf. It's open water and can have 2-3 foot waves in the middle, much of the year.

I would have concerns if it was a "freshwater" boat. What is your trailer made from? if it's aluminum or galvanized you will be ok.Painted steel might look ok after a few launches but give it 6 months and you will see what salt water can do. Same with a boat and it's wiring, lights, etc.
Not being a deep vee it will beat the heck out of you when the seas pick up.
