I think we all make rash decisions sometimes and later review what we wrote. BUT, unless it is really soon, you can't change it. I've done it myself. The poster seemed different as what they usually post as non combative. Maybe just a bad morning....

Have to agree with you. That post was arrogant, condescending, presumputious and down right rude. Totally unnecessary. Maybe the poster had a bad day and will appologize.

My response to the OP was a realistic reply to the question he/she posed. The OP posted in several other threads (e.g., Sarasota Bradenton) for advice on this subject before buying property in Arcadia -- which turns out to be totally opposite from what the OP was looking for originallyin 2011. Excellent advice was given by real estate agents and locals as to when and where to look for housing and employment to the OP over a year ago.

Hospitality Jobs in Management?? Whats the best area?

Surely, I apologize if my post sounded harsh, I posted with the intent of it being read as a common sense approach to a relocation/job first issue. The best he/she can do, unfortunately, is either rent out the house that was purchased if possible, or sell the house. If anyone knows the Arcadia town in DeSoto county, finding a job in hotel management would be nearly impossible. Finding any job in Arcadia, ditto. It is clearly not a thriving town with hotels and there is practically nothing but farms within a very wide radius.

Yes, the OP came on the forum for advice; and was given the best advice on where to look for housing, was told to rent as well, was told about the employment problems --- but forged ahead and ignored the advice. Now, the realistic choices are almost non existent unless the OP sells and moves to a thriving more populated area. I would suggest Venice or Englewood, and would suggest renting. What can the rest of you suggest?

I think he is looking in the wrong direction. Arcadia is a cool historical "westernish" town, with a variety of things happening.

Consider -
If you drive east, and head toward Orlando there are more hotel opportunities than there are around here. The drive from Arcadia is well over an hour - but that may be doable.

Reality -
I do agree that Arcadia isn't where I'd move to if I were looking for a job. The lower end jobs are going to be flooded with applications. There is a big population there working as field help in the many many many orange groves there - all of them would like a nice job, so the competition is going to be fierce and low-wage.

Good Luck!
You may want to try the entrepreneurial route - if you can start and run a business well - you may find plenty of people willing to work for you.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have posted in a couple forums and yes I do go to Florida a couple times each year for a couple weeks each time and yes I have done a ton of research on housing, jobs, unemployment, expenses etc. I have also gotten a lot of great advice on my posts and with all that it helped greatly on my research.

I know how far of a drive it is to the coast, east or west. I live in Upstate NY now and for many years drove an hour for milk through the Adirondacks. I believe in one or more of my posts it states that I know I will be driving for work and that is fine. I do not plan on working in Arcadia. I bought in Arcadia because I got a great deal that would allow me to have something while I am looking for work with out putting myself in debt if i decide to pick up and move. My daughter will be attending college in Port Charlote which is a nice 30 min drive. The folks in Arcadia are very nice and I hope that with the rebuilding going on and people bringing up the economy that the town will come back in time.

Punta Gorda and Clearwater, lakewood ranch, Sarasota I also like but the deal came out of Arcadia so there I landed. My car will take where I need to go from there and I have no fear of driving.

So as my original post said, yes I am looking for work in many directions and have not moved to FL yet I am just placing my stepping stones so when the job comes around I am ready to make the move.

Thanks again for all the positive posts and again every one has their own opinion, sometimes the story is just deeper but in any case I value all the information and welcome more.
